Rava dosa is a dish that can be served as a snack with chutney or tomato sauce and also in dinner with sambhar and masala aloo bhujia.. It is a very popular item among North Indians as it tastes similar to the South Indian dosa, but is comaparitively easy to cook. All you need to prepare the rava dosa batter is suji(rava) and water. In winters though, some eno or lime juice or soda is added to it, to catalyse the fermentation (khameer)..
Servings: 4
Ingredients:
- 500 gm suji
- 2 glasses of water
- salt as per taste
- optional: chopped tomatoes, grated cabbage etc..
Steps :
- Soak suji in water for 4 to 5 hours in summers or more in winters. Add a pinch of salt. Leave it as it is covered with a lid.
- There is trick to prepare the round dosas without breaking them.. The whole beauty of a dosa is that it is round and evenly spread and not broken in between, as the picture below..
- You can now sprinkle the chopped vegetables on it. Alternatively, the chopped vegetables can be mixed in the batter. The vegetables have to be chopped into very small pieces.
- After a while, spread oil on the periphery of the dosa and turn it upside down using a ladle, carefully so as not to break it while turning..
- Cook it until it is crispy and reddish brown on both the sides.. Serve with sambhar or chutney as you like!
